Applications
Appliances: Washing machine drums, dishwasher inner liners, refrigerator cladding, oven panels.
Architecture: Interior wall cladding, elevator cab panels, escalator balustrades.
Automotive: Exhaust trim strips, bright trim rings and decorative automotive components.
Foodservice: Food processing equipment for dry and slightly moist environments.
Notes
Weldability: 430 sensitises in HAZ — intergranular corrosion after welding. For welded assemblies use 439 (Ti-stabilised) or 444 (Mo+Ti). If welding 430, PWHT at 750-800 C is possible but impractical for most fabrications.
430 vs 304: 430: 40-50% lower cost (no Ni), magnetic, slightly lower corrosion resistance. 304: better formability, better weld, non-magnetic, better outdoor corrosion. Use 430 for indoor appliances and dry environments; 304 for food contact and outdoor.
