Description

PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) per ASTM D3222 / ISO 12086. Semi-crystalline fluoropolymer with the best mechanical properties of all standard fluoropolymers (Rm 50 MPa) combined with excellent chemical resistance (continuous service -40 to +150 C). Melt-processable by injection moulding and extrusion. Piezoelectric in oriented film form (Kynar PVDF). Standard for chemical piping, semiconductor wet process equipment and ultrasonic transducer films.

Applications
Chemical Piping
High-purity chemical distribution piping for HCl, HF, H2SO4, NaOH and solvent service.
Semiconductor
Wet bench components, chemical tanks, fittings and tubing for semiconductor fab.
Piezoelectric
Ultrasonic transducer films, hydrophones, tactile sensors and energy harvesting films.
Pharmaceutical
Pure water and WFI (water for injection) distribution piping.
Technical Notes
βœ…
PVDF vs PFA
PVDF: better mechanical properties (Rm 50 vs 25 MPa), lower cost, lower service temp (150 vs 260 C), semi-crystalline (better creep resistance). PFA: broader chemical resistance, higher temperature. Use PVDF for structural chemical piping; PFA for ultra-pure semiconductor or high-temp applications.
πŸ’§
Chemical Resistance
Excellent against all common acids, bases, halogens and solvents. NOT resistant to: fuming sulphuric acid, ketones and strong Lewis acid catalysts.
πŸ’‘
Piezoelectric Property
PVDF film (Kynar) is the only commercially available flexible piezoelectric polymer. Key for flexible sensors, wearable health monitors and acoustic transducers.
